Spirometry:

Spirometry is a lung function test that plays an important role in occupational respiratory health surveillance by helping to determine if a worker demonstrates a specific pattern of respiratory impairment. Spirometry also helps to assess the effectiveness of protective measures in the workplace.

Benefits:
This spirometry training course uses small groups, demonstrations, lectures, audiovisual instruction and individual practice to provide students with the skills to administer spirometry testing in the occupational or clinic settings. Competency in performance of spirometry testing will be verified through students passing a written exam and practical exam. Certificates will be given to students that are successful in passing both exams.

Audience:
Occupational health nurses, respiratory therapists, physicians, safety professionals, health technicians, or other personnel involved in the performance and/or interpretation of spirometry.

Course Details:

The NIOSH-approved spirometry training course is conducted over two days in the Respiratory Care department on the Texas State Round Rock campus. The 16 hour curriculum consists of lecture and practicum exercises to aid the individual in the proper performance of spirometry testing. The course is taught by registered respiratory therapists with years of experience and training in lung function testing. The cost of the course is $700.00 and includes all course materials, snacks/drinks, and a box lunch for both days.
