Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice

At Texas State University, we value interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPCP) to provide our students with the skills they need to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to better serve their patients and improve health outcomes. Traditionally, interprofessional education (IPE) "occurs when student from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other."1 More recently, the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education2 has redefined IPE as "interprofessional practice and education" to emphasize the importance of interprofessional collaboration along the healthcare continuum from student to practitioner to improve patient outcomes, support all interested parties (e.g., patients, caregivers, healthcare workers, communities), and reduce health-related costs.
