Yonhui Cho, 1Lt, USAF, BSC
-Graduated from Texas State University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science.
-Worked at the University of Texas at MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2006-2008 as a Blood Marrow Technologist (BMT). Hematopoietic peripheral cells apheresis (HPC-A) adult stem cells were the main type of cells that I worked on while employed there. It was a great experience especially since it was not a traditional medical technologist job. I learned tremendously about cancer cells and the various chemotherapy treatments available to various cancer patients. I was the lead technologist on a doubled blinded study with Mesenchymal cells for treatment of acute graft versus host disease.
- I then applied for a commission as an officer in the United States Air Force. I got selected in 2008 to be a Biomedical Laboratory Officer in March 2008. I went to Commissioned Officer Training school in June 2008. It was four weeks of training, and immediately after I went to my first assignment at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, CA.
- I am currently a 1st Lieutenant and the officer in Charge of Air Mobility Command's largest Central Operations/Specimen Collection Element and supports 400 providers with 100K tests/yr. I lead 11 Active Duty & 7 civilian personnel. I monitor collections & shipments of 93K specimens/yr. I manage $1.5M in resources. I also ensure compliance with College of American Pathologists, Clinical Lab Improvement Act, FDA, & JC regulations. Support deployments and various missions around the world. I’ve learned a great deal about leadership and countless numbers of leadership styles that exist. Serving my country and helping save lives for those that fight for our country is an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
- I am currently in the process of applying for Pharmacy School for the school year of 2011.
