NEUral systems Research in Aging Lab (NEURAL)
Dr. Ranjini Mohan
The NEUral systems Research in Aging Laboratory (NEURAL) is directed by Dr. Ranjini Mohan. Ongoing research is directed at understanding language and cognition in healthy adults and those with neurogenic cognitive-communication disorders. In one of our current projects, we examine how age and physical activity mediate the behavioral and neural mechanisms of word retrieval. In another project, we investigate discourse outcomes from a storytelling program among persons with aphasia.
The lab houses a 64-channel Biosemi Active Two electroencephalography (EEG) system and a selection of 32- and 64-channel caps in a range of sizes. Research at the NEURAL lab involves collaboration across departments within Texas State University, including Physical Therapy and Sociology. We also collaborate with researchers at Louisiana State University and Purdue University. Our lab consistently mentors graduate and undergraduate students who assist with existing projects or conduct independent research.
