Course Work
The MHIM is a 36-hour degree program which includes a 30-hour core of Health Information Management (HIM) courses plus 6 hours of electives or completion of a thesis. Specific combinations of elective courses are organized into concentrations.
Principle areas of study include health data content structure and standards, health informatics and data analytics, healthcare information security, healthcare finance and revenue cycle management, quality improvement, research methods, regulatory compliance, and contemporary leadership principles for HIM.

MHIM Program Objectives:
- To provide an accredited degree program that will prepare students for the emerging roles and functions within the health information management domain.
- To provide graduate level education where students develop problem-solving skills with ability to analyze and evaluate systems, technology, regulations, and data needs to assist in creating new methods to achieve greater efficiency.
- To provide a broad-based program of coursework to support the varied aspects of HIM practice focusing on data management, data analytics, compliance and regulations including privacy and security of patient information.
- To establish a framework for professional behavior and ethical principles to be used to guide decision-making and actions in the expanding role of health information management professionals.
- To conduct research that will exemplify and define the health information body of knowledge.
